The weapon proved to be capable piercing through body armor where as other pistol calibers at the time failed to achieve such a feat. By 2001, the weapon went into production and was the direct rival of the FN P90 designed by Fabrique Nationale. Since it's conception, the weapon has undergone numerous modifications and variations including the new MP7A1 and MP7A2.
